February's “yes, no, maybe” reads!
The start to 2026 has been... a touch slow.
Since you're here, and this is just for the lovely Bindery subscribers (hi, loves), we'll get a little deeper into how I felt about each of the books I read in February...
“When the Tides Held the Moon” by Venessa Vida Kelley
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Such beautiful prose, an immersive setting full of lovable and diverse characters, a heartfelt and beautiful message. Ideal for fans of "The Shape of Water".
“Kindred: A Graphic Novel Adaptation” by Octavia E. Butler
If you've read "Kindred" before, this will make the whole story feel fresh and brutally raw. If you've never read "Kindred" before, this is an excellent adaptation that remains true to the novel.
“The Deep” by Rivers Solomon
A phenomenal commentary on collective memory, generational trauma, the importance of personal identity, and the struggle to find balance between self and community — all in a very quick and lovingly written story.
“Two Can Play” by Ali Hazelwood
Ehhh... I keep trying with Ali Hazelwood, and I keep coming away somewhat ambivalent. It's fine! It's okay! It does the things it sets out to do! I think? Kinda? Ultimately, this is a super quick read that's kinda cute and not super memorable.
“Silver & Blood” by Jessie Mihalik
Love a free book. Thank you so much to Avon for continuing to send me free books... even when I really, truly do not like them. I found this story so very derivative and uninspired, but EVEN WORSE, I think the FMC keeps letting Token Hot Dude off the hook waaaayyyy too easily. I have little patience for such things.
